Our Schedule
GOD’S WORK IN PROGRESS: Creation
August 14th through September 11th
Children will learn that God’s creation is not finished but is a work in progress. As they explore God’s “earth machine” as a wondrously balanced ecosystem, they learn that God gave them responsibility for its care. Being created in God’s image challenges them to reflect God’s Spirit in their daily lives. They learn that they, too, are a work in progress and through Jesus they can be a new creation.
This unit includes game, Bible knowledge, science, and computer workshops.
CHARACTER COUNTS: The Story of Joshua
September 18th through October 16th
Character counts! Children will learn that their character counts in leading their daily lives. Joshua’s example of an obedient leadership will help them learn how faithful leaders can bring about new beginnings. As children follow Joshua from entering the Promised Land to his farewell address, they will learn about the qualities of a good leader who trusts and obeys God.
This unit includes Game, Bible Knowledge, Video, cooking, and computer workshops.
LOYAL LIVING: The Story of Ruth
October 23rd through November 20th
Children follow Ruth from Moab to Bethlehem where she begins a new life with her mother-in-law, Naomi. The children will learn what loyal living means by seeing Ruth loyally providing for Naomi. They will see how Ruth and Naomi were faithful throughout their struggles. They also learn that Ruth and Naomi thanked God for their blessings by showing care and kindness to others. They make a connection between Boaz being Ruth’s kinsmen redeemer to Jesus being ours.
This unit includes Video, Media Production, Computer, Bible Knowledge, Math, and Puppetry workshops.
CHRIST REVEALED: Christmas Seen through Symbols
November 27 through January 1st
Children can easily be distracted by the commercial side of Christmas. As Christian educators, we need to reveal the true meaning of Christmas to them. In this unit Christ’s birth and life are revealed through Christmas symbols today. Children learn that many of the symbols they see decorating their homes, store windows, and streets have deeper meaning than the secular symbols they have become and point to Jesus’ birth. Children also learn the importance of telling the Christmas story to others..
This unit includes Bible knowledge, video, media production, math, and puppetry workshops. What Is Rotational Sunday School?
In a rotational setting, the same Bible story or theme is taught for several weeks. Each week, children rotate to a different learning station. The story remains the same, but the children encounter it in different ways in each station. Repetition is an important part of the rotation approach. The more ways children explore a story or concept the more it is reinforced in their memories. The variety of experiences keeps interest high throughout the unit. Teachers teach the same lesson, with age-level adjustments, for the length of the rotation. Rotational learning is exciting for students and teachers alike, as teachers teach to their strengths and students experience Bible stories in ways they learn best.
Our Classrooms
Garden of Eden
Not your average craft sticks, markers and paper...in this room children relate to the Bible story using art! Our art room is overflowing with all the supplies a creative mind can handle. This is also where children eat and prepare food as an illustration of the Bible story. Sometimes they even participate in fun, scientific experiments. The only thing more creative than the decor is the teaching staff! | Acts Playhouse
This is where we listen to a storyteller (in first person) or watch a puppet show and experience activities related to the Bible story. Children interpret the Bible story through physical activities and games. This is a popular room because children can express themselves through acting, wearing "Bible Times" costumes, using props and playing musical instruments! Our drama room even has it's own dressing area, stage, stage lights, sound system, and bench seating! |
Ark.com
This workshop is a hands down favorite with kids! Here, children discover Bible skills while using the kid-safe software to learn and interpret the Bible story. Children also experience the geography of the Bible as they walk in the sandals of both old and new testament characters. Our internet-free environment allows them to learn what is happening in the world today, with an emphasis on church missions, in a distraction-free setting. | Holy Word Theatre
In this room, children explore the Bible story by watching a video followed by discussion time and our very own version of Bible Jeopardy. This is also the home of our media production class where we create our own videos. Kids are drawn to this workshop because we serve popcorn and have a large screen with theater-style seating!! |
