Children's Worship

Children's Worship is an optional program for children that helps them make the transition from nursery to attending the full worship service. Children sit with their families during the first part of the service. Following the children's sermon, our children who leave worship will follow their adult leadership team out of the sanctuary to the Act's Playhouse (Gallant building Rm. 301).  Our Christian Education leadership team will be in charge of leading a child-friendly worship service which will include singing and liturgy, prayers, Bible stories and video illustrations.  This service will end promptly at 12:00pm.  Children ages 3 years old up to and including first graders are encouraged to participate.

We ask every parent to take their turn serving as parent helper. The duties of the parent helper are:

• Show up on the assigned Sunday: If you are not able to be there on one of your Sunday’s, please find your own substitute. If you switch dates with another family or are unable to find a replacement, please inform Joanne Broderick.
Bring a snack for 20 children: Our average attendance is 10 children. However, we often have as many as 25 or 30. Most Sunday’s it is sufficient to bring enough snack for 20 children. High attendance Sundays like Easter and Christmas require snack for 30 children. You do not need to bring a drink. Please bring something small, as most families will be eating lunch following the service. The children will eat their snack in their chairs while they watch the video Bible illustration. Therefore, it should be something that is easy to hold in their lap.
Assist the Children’s Worship leader: The Worship leader should be free to continue the service uninterrupted. We ask that the parent helper assist with trips to the bathroom, trips to the water fountain, consoling sensitive or upset children, etc. They will also prepare and serve the snack.
Help cleanup: At the conclusion of the service the parent helper should help the children cleanup, hand out the take home sheet, put a sticker on the attendance chart, and return the children to their parents as they arrive for pickup.

Thank you so much for your help. We could not offer this program without you

Worship Preparation Class

Worship Preparation class, offered during the first or second grade year, is an opportunity for children in and their parents to grow in their understanding of the sacrament of Holy Communion.  During the workshop, we will discuss the meanings of both baptism and communion, and we will do it in fun and creative ways! We know children can have a difficult time understanding church sacraments, but we hope they will have a better appreciation after our time together. At the end of the workshop, there will be time for the children to meet the members of session to share what they learned.
